Just over 50 years ago Alex Abrikosov published his seminal paper on the theory of type II superconductors. That theory, particularly the confinement of flux tied to quantized vortices, has impacted physical sciences from the engineering of superconductors with high current carrying capacity to theories as diverse as the fractional quantum Hall effect to models for the large scale structure of the universe.
The purpose of this workshop is to discuss recent results, both theoretical and experimental, on vortex states in exotic and/or new classes of condensates, and particularly to identify outstanding problems and unanswered questions involving vortices, their dynamical response and interactions in a variety of phases of superconductors, quantum fluids and condensates of cold atoms.
